Memory capture
The assistant · 1 min read
The assistant writes down decisions and conventions about your project, so it does not need telling twice.
When you would want it
Explaining the same thing at the start of every conversation is the main reason AI assistants feel forgetful.
Where to find it
- All Features → Memory capture
- Turn on or off
- Settings
What you get out of it
- You stop re-explaining the same project conventions at each new chat.
- The memory format is markdown in your repo - inspectable, committable, deletable.
How to use it, step by step
- On by default - the assistant jots decisions and conventions it learns.
- The memories land in plain markdown files inside your project folder.
- Read or edit them like any other file; Settings shows where they are.
- Delete a line and it is forgotten, permanently and visibly.
Why this beats the usual way
Opaque assistant memory is un-auditable and prevents teammates from seeing what the tool thinks the project is. Markdown in the repo is memory you can own.
