Chat history and memory
The assistant · 1 min read
Every conversation is kept in Today, Yesterday, and older groups, so you can go back to one. A strip at the top shows exactly what the assistant is remembering right now, and a button clears it.
When you would want it
Assistants that forget everything are frustrating, and assistants that remember invisibly are worse. Showing what is remembered makes clearing it something you can actually see work.
Where to find it
- All Features → Chat history and memory
- Open Assistant
- New conversation
What you get out of it
- Wednesday's refactoring conversation is still there when Friday needs it.
- Memory that is visible and clearable is memory you can trust.
How to use it, step by step
- Press Ctrl+Shift+N, or choose New conversation, to start fresh - the conversation you were in is kept.
- In Vibe, every conversation is listed in the sidebar, grouped into Today, Yesterday, and older. In the IDE, open the Assistant and choose History.
- Search past conversations by title or by anything said in them, rename one to find it later, or delete one by one.
- The header names the current conversation and Share copies it as markdown.
- The strip at the top shows exactly what the assistant is remembering right now, and clears it on demand.
- Everything is stored per project on your machine, never uploaded.
Why this beats the usual way
Assistants that forget every session start you from zero each time; assistants that remember invisibly are worse. Showing the remembered context and offering 'clear it' turns memory into a feature instead of a liability.
