Stop your program in the middle of running it, look at what every value actually is, and step through it one line at a time.

When you would want it

Adding print statements to work out what a program is doing is guessing with extra steps. A debugger just shows you.

Where to find it

  • All Features → Debug adapter client
  • Start debugging
  • Stop debugging
  • Step over
  • Step into
  • Step out
  • Debug console
  • Turn on or off
  • Settings
  • Keyboard → F5

What you get out of it

  • You see the real state of the program, not whatever print statements you remembered to add.
  • Breakpoints survive restarts, so repeat runs stop in the same places.
  • Languages without a debug adapter say so honestly instead of offering dead buttons.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Click left of a line number to set a breakpoint - a red dot appears.
  2. Press F5 to run under the debugger.
  3. When the program stops, read every value in scope in the side panel.
  4. F10 steps over the next line, F11 steps into a function call.
  5. Press F5 again to continue to the next breakpoint or the end.

Why this beats the usual way

Print-debugging only shows the values you remembered to print. Agentfly includes visual debugging for JavaScript, TypeScript, and Python out of the box, so you can inspect the full state at each breakpoint.
