Open IDE in a separate window

The workbench · 1 min read

Keep the Vibe-first launcher where it is and open the full editor-first IDE beside it, on the same project.

When you would want it

Planning and building want different screen shapes. Two windows means the conversation stays visible while the editor, terminal and preview get a whole window of their own.

Where to find it

  • All Features → Open IDE in a separate window
  • Open IDE in a separate window

What you get out of it

  • Planning and building get their own screen shapes instead of fighting over one panel.
  • No re-opening folders or re-sending context: both windows share the same workspace.
  • Vibe stays the default front door, so the editor never swallows a newcomer whole.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Start in Vibe, the default: a centered prompt reading Plan, Build, / for skills, @ for context.
  2. Choose Open IDE at the bottom of the Vibe sidebar, or in the top bar when the window is narrow.
  3. The new window always lands editor-first on the same folder; the launcher stays conversation-first.
  4. Work both sides at once: ask and review in Vibe, edit and run in the IDE window.
  5. Close the IDE window when done - the conversation, files, and tasks stay exactly where they were.

Why this beats the usual way

Cursor's Agents Window can show the IDE beside the chat, but its paywalled usage limits stop heavy sessions cold with an Upgrade to Pro wall. Agentfly is ad-supported, so the frontier models stay reachable and your earnings ledger shows the trade openly instead of a blocked prompt.
