TODO and FIXME highlighting
Editing · 1 min read
Notes you leave yourself in comments - TODO, FIXME, HACK - get a colour so they stand out.
When you would want it
A note you cannot find is a note you did not leave. These are the comments you actually want to trip over later.
Where to find it
- All Features → TODO and FIXME highlighting
- List them
- Turn on or off
- Settings
What you get out of it
- Notes-to-self stop dissolving into the mass of ordinary comments.
- One command turns scattered intentions into a project-wide index.
How to use it, step by step
- On by default - write TODO, FIXME or HACK in a comment and it takes a colour.
- Only real comments count; the word TODO inside a string is left alone.
- Edit - List TODOs and FIXMEs gathers every one from your open files into the Problems panel, and says so plainly when there are none.
- The list doubles as a checklist: close the loop on each and watch the panel empty.
Why this beats the usual way
Leaving TODOs invisible means relying on memory or grep later. Highlighting plus a one-command index means the notes actually get read - which is the only reason to write them.
