Column selection mode
Editing · 1 min read
Dragging the mouse selects a rectangle of text - a straight column down the page - instead of following the words.
When you would want it
Useful for lining up columns of data or stripping the same prefix off twenty lines.
Where to find it
- All Features → Column selection mode
- Turn on or off
- Settings
What you get out of it
- Stripping the same prefix, or aligning a column of values, is one drag instead of one edit per line.
- It is a mode you toggle deliberately, so it never surprises you mid-edit.
How to use it, step by step
- Turn it on in Editing settings when you need it.
- Drag with the mouse: the selection is a rectangle - a straight column down the lines.
- Type or paste to edit every row of the rectangle at once.
- Turn it back off afterwards - while on, every drag is a box, which is not what you want normally.
Why this beats the usual way
Most editors bury column selection behind an undocumented modifier key where it fires by accident or stays undiscovered. Agentfly makes it an explicit mode you choose for a job and put down afterwards.
