Finding your way
Breadcrumbs
Finding your way · 1 min read
A line above the editor showing the trail to where you are: the folder, the file, and the function your cursor is inside.
When you would want it
It answers 'where am I' at a glance, and every part of the trail is a button.
Where to find it
- All Features → Breadcrumbs
- Turn on or off
- Settings
What you get out of it
- 'Where am I' is answered without touching the explorer.
- Every crumb is a menu - navigation, file actions and structure all hang off the same line.
How to use it, step by step
- Look above the editor - the trail reads workspace, folder, file, then the symbol your cursor is in.
- Click the workspace or a folder to browse its files and sibling folders.
- Click the file for sibling and recent files, Quick Open, copy path, reveal, rename, and compare or history actions.
- Click a symbol crumb to search that file's outline.
- From the keyboard: focus the trail, use Left and Right between levels, Down or Enter to open one, then type to filter the list.
Why this beats the usual way
Static breadcrumb trails are decoration: text you can read but not use. Here every segment is a working menu, so the trail is the shortest path to everything above your cursor.
