Auto-rename paired tag
Editing · 1 min read
Change the name of an opening tag and its closing tag changes to match, by itself.
When you would want it
Renaming one and not the other breaks the page, and you usually find out somewhere else entirely.
Where to find it
- All Features → Auto-rename paired tag
- Turn on or off
- Settings
What you get out of it
- Halved tags never drift apart, so the 'mismatched tag' error stops existing.
- Undo treats the pair as one edit - you never end up with a half-renamed element.
How to use it, step by step
- Click into the name of an opening tag and start typing its replacement.
- The matching closing tag changes character for character as you type.
- If the rename went wrong, one Ctrl+Z undoes both sides together.
- It works in HTML, XML, JSX, and template languages out of the box.
Why this beats the usual way
Manual renaming means hunting the closing tag by eye in nested markup. Pairing the rename at edit time removes a whole class of breakage that template engines then report at the wrong site.
