Ask AI about your code

The workbench · 2 min read

The assistant already sees the file you are on, your cursor, your selection and the editor's errors. Ctrl+L adds a selection to the conversation as a chip.

When you would want it

"Fix this" and "what does this function do" should just work. Ask about unsaved code, prepare a refactor, find issues or write tests without copying between tools.

Where to find it

  • All Features → Ask AI about your code
  • Add to chat
  • Ask AI
  • Explain
  • Refactor
  • Write tests
  • Find issues
  • Keyboard → Ctrl+L

What you get out of it

  • The assistant resolves "this", "here" and "this file" the way a colleague looking over your shoulder would.
  • Unsaved code counts: what it sees is the editor buffer, not the last saved file.
  • Errors the editor already found go along too, so "fix the errors" needs no further explanation.
  • In Vibe mode, where the editor is hidden, only file names and errors are shared - never a stale selection you cannot see.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Just ask. Every message already tells the assistant which file you are on, where your cursor is, what you have selected, which tabs are open and which errors the editor shows.
  2. Say "fix this" or "what does this function do" and it answers about the code in front of you - no pasting, no file names.
  3. To hand over a specific piece, select it and press Ctrl+L, or right-click and choose Agentfly: Add Selection to Chat. It lands in the composer as a chip, so you can add a question before sending.
  4. With nothing selected, Ctrl+L still selects the current line, exactly as it does in other editors.
  5. Right-click for Explain, Refactor, Write Tests and Find Issues to start from a prepared request you can edit before sending.

Why this beats the usual way

Browser chats and many plugins start every question blind, so you paste code, then paste the error, then explain which file it came from. Agentfly sends that context with the message automatically and keeps Ctrl+L for when you want to point at something precisely.
