Check spelling in comments

Editing · 1 min read

Misspelled words in comments get a wavy underline, and the fix is one click away on the lightbulb.

When you would want it

A typo in a comment is the one kind nothing else catches - the compiler does not read comments, the linter does not read them, and reviewers skim them. So it sits there forever.

Where to find it

  • All Features → Check spelling in comments
  • Check now
  • Turn on or off
  • Settings

What you get out of it

  • The one class of typo no compiler can see finally gets a check.
  • Conservative flagging means the check never becomes the noise you switch off.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Turn it on in Editing settings - it is off by default.
  2. Or run Edit - Check Spelling in Comments on demand; results land in the Problems panel, including an explicit 'nothing found'.
  3. Misspelled words get a wavy underline; click the lightbulb for the fix.
  4. Only real comments are checked, and only words with a known correction are flagged - library names and product names pass.
  5. Code is never spell-checked: an identifier is named, not spelled.

Why this beats the usual way

Most spell plugins underline everything unfamiliar, training you to ignore the colour entirely. Flagging only correctable words keeps every underline worth clicking.
