Minimap
Editing · 1 min read
A tiny picture of the whole file down the right-hand edge, that you can click to jump.
When you would want it
You often remember roughly where something was - near the top, in that dense block - without remembering its name. The shape of the file is a real way to navigate.
Where to find it
- All Features → Minimap
- Turn on or off
- Settings
What you get out of it
- You navigate by shape - 'the dense block near the top' - which is how you actually remember code.
- Big files become one gesture instead of a search or a scroll journey.
How to use it, step by step
- Turn it on in Editing settings - it is off by default.
- The right edge shows the file reduced to a thumbnail.
- Click anywhere on the minimap to jump straight there.
- Drag the highlighted viewport box to scrub through the file.
Why this beats the usual way
A scrollbar tells you where you are; a minimap tells you where everything is. Shape-based navigation beats position guessing on any file longer than a screen.
