Finding your way
Global search and replace
Finding your way · 1 min read
Search every file in the project for some text, and change it everywhere at once.
When you would want it
Renaming something, or finding every place a mistake was copied to.
Where to find it
- All Features → Global search and replace
- Search the project
- Turn on or off
- Settings
- Keyboard → Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+F
What you get out of it
- You see every hit before anything changes - no surprise diffs.
- Pattern search catches variants a plain find misses.
- Results stay live as you edit, so renames across many files stay trackable.
- Results come from your code, not from build output or an agent's second copy of the project - and a replace never rewrites those copies behind your back.
How to use it, step by step
- Press Ctrl+Shift+F.
- Type the text, or a regular expression pattern if you need one.
- Narrow the scope with include/exclude patterns - say, only *.tsx files.
- Review the matched lines grouped per file before touching anything.
- Type the replacement and press Replace All, or replace just the matches you approve one file at a time.
- For a file in a folder your .gitignore leaves out, open it from the file tree instead - search skips those folders, along with node_modules, build output, and the .claude/worktrees copies coding agents make.
Why this beats the usual way
Where many editors push you to an extension for project-wide replace with review, Agentfly treats preview-before-change as the default path. Combined with gutter diffs and git, every mass edit stays visible and reversible.
