Updates
Install updates automatically
Updates · 2 min read
New versions download in the background. When one is ready, the status bar says Restart to update and a small card offers to restart now.
When you would want it
So you are never out of date, and you always know when a new version is waiting - without a box that stops your work.
Where to find it
- All Features → Install updates automatically
- Check now
- Restart to update
- Turn on or off
- Settings
What you get out of it
- You always know when a new version is waiting, without a dialog in your way.
- An update never costs you an unsaved buffer: it is kept as a recovery draft and offered back after the restart - and with crash recovery off, Agentfly asks you to save first.
- If an update fails, the reason is in the log Help → Report a Problem sends.
- Whichever way you installed Agentfly, only one thing is ever updating it.
How to use it, step by step
- Leave it on, which is the default. New versions download in the background while you work.
- Watch the status bar: it shows Updating with a percentage, then Restart to update when the new version is ready.
- On Windows, choose Restart now on the card, or click Restart to update. Agentfly keeps anything unsaved, installs, and reopens by itself. On Linux, the update installs when you close Agentfly.
- Or keep working - the update installs the next time you close Agentfly.
- Help → Check for Updates asks straight away; turn the setting off to update by hand.
Why this beats the usual way
Most editors either interrupt with a modal or update so quietly you never find out. Agentfly shows progress in the status bar, offers one quiet restart when the update is ready, and otherwise installs it when you close the editor. Where the Microsoft Store or a Linux package manager installed Agentfly, that keeps the job, and Agentfly's own updater stands down instead of downloading a copy it has no permission to apply.
