Floating panels
The workbench · 2 min read
Changes, Preview, the project overview, Team activity and the IDE's assistant open as windows floating over your work instead of sidebars.
When you would want it
A sidebar takes a column from the editor or the conversation for as long as it is open. A floating panel sits over the work only while you need it, goes where you put it, and gives the full width back the moment it closes.
Where to find it
- All Features → Floating panels
- Reset panel positions
What you get out of it
- The editor and the conversation always keep the full width of the window.
- Put panels where they suit you - next to the code you are checking, or on the side of the screen you look at.
- A panel can never get stuck off-screen: its title bar is always kept reachable, even after the window shrinks.
How to use it, step by step
- Open a panel as usual: Changes or Preview in the Vibe sidebar, Project overview from the project card, or Ctrl+I for the assistant in the IDE.
- Drag it by its title bar to where you want it.
- Resize it from any edge or corner. Double-click the title bar, or press Maximise, to fill the window; do it again to restore.
- Press Escape or the close button to hide it. It opens in the same place next time.
- Lost one? Run Reset Floating Panel Positions from the command palette to bring every panel back to its default place.
Why this beats the usual way
Sidebars take a fixed column for as long as they are open, and IDEs with many of them leave a narrow strip for the code. Agentfly's panels float over the work only while you need them, go where you put them, and give the space back the moment they close.
