Selecting and moving files

Files and gestures · 1 min read

Files can be renamed, moved, copied and deleted straight from the file list.

When you would want it

Leaving the editor to use a file manager for something this ordinary is a break in the work.

Where to find it

  • All Features → Selecting and moving files
  • Open Explorer
  • New file
  • Open file
  • Save
  • Save as
  • Save all
  • Revert file
  • Close editor
  • Close all editors
  • Split editor right
  • Merge editor panels
  • Insert file template
  • Open folder
  • Open recent
  • Open a recent folder
  • Clear recent folders
  • Close folder
  • Keyboard → F2

What you get out of it

  • Ordinary file chores stop meaning a trip to a file manager.
  • Recycle-bin deletes and panel merge keep mistakes cheap.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Right-click any file for the full menu - rename, move, copy, delete.
  2. Drag to move; hold Ctrl while dragging to copy instead.
  3. Press F2 to rename with the keyboard.
  4. Deletes go to the recycle bin, so mistakes are recoverable.
  5. For two files at once: Split editor right from a tab header, drag the divider to taste, Merge editor panels when done.

Why this beats the usual way

The file handler that only opens files forces the ordinary work of file management onto external tools. In-place gestures - drag, F2, recycle-bin - are how a file list should have always worked.
